Iran has issued a warning that any US intervention in the Strait of Hormuz would violate the current ceasefire, following President Donald Trump’s announcement of a new naval escort operation for commercial vessels in the region.

Trump said the United States would begin the mission, named “Project Freedom,” on Monday, describing it as a humanitarian effort to support ships affected by the blockade.

“We will use best efforts to get their Ships and Crews safely out of the Strait,” Trump wrote on Truth Social, adding that the operation was aimed at ensuring safe navigation for stranded vessels.

He also said ongoing talks with Iran were “very positive” and could lead to a broader agreement, without addressing reported proposals from Tehran.

Iran’s parliamentary national security chief responded by warning: “Any American interference in the new maritime regime of the Strait of Hormuz will be considered a violation of the ceasefire.”

The Strait of Hormuz remains a critical global trade route, with Iran’s restrictions and US counter-blockade significantly affecting energy supplies worldwide.

US Central Command confirmed that the operation would deploy warships, aircraft, unmanned platforms, and around 15,000 military personnel.

Maritime tracking firm AXSMarine reported that over 900 commercial vessels were present in the Gulf as of April 29.

The Revolutionary Guards warned Washington that it faced “an impossible operation or a bad deal with the Islamic Republic of Iran.”

European leaders have raised concerns about rising energy prices and urged diplomatic solutions, with Germany calling for the reopening of the strait and a negotiated settlement.

Oil prices have surged about 50 percent since the conflict began, driven by disruptions in shipping routes.

US Treasury Secretary Scott Bessent said the strategy was designed to intensify economic pressure on Iran.

“We are suffocating the regime, and they are not able to pay their soldiers,” he said.

Iranian adviser Mohsen Rezaei also issued a strong warning, stating that US naval forces could be targeted if tensions escalate.

“Prepare to face a graveyard of your carriers and forces,” he posted on X.
