Security will be heightened in Windsor as the United Kingdom prepares to host Bola Tinubu, President of Nigeria, on a state visit next week, with authorities announcing temporary airspace and road restrictions.

Thames Valley Police said the measures form part of a comprehensive security operation involving the Royal Borough of Windsor and Maidenhead, the Royal Household, and other partners.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Hall said the airspace restrictions are only one aspect of broader security arrangements.

“The air restrictions are just one part of our robust security operation for the state visit of Nigerian President Tinubu next week, with many measures you will see and others you will not.”

He noted that police have extensive experience managing security during royal ceremonies in the historic town.

“As a force, we have a vast amount of experience in policing Royal events in Windsor and significant planning and preparation has gone into this event.”

Officials said Windsor Castle already operates under permanent airspace controls, but these will be temporarily extended on March 18 to further strengthen security.

The restrictions will be enforced from 7:00 a.m. to 11:59 p.m., in collaboration with the Civil Aviation Authority.

Hall warned that anyone violating the restrictions would face arrest under the Air Navigation Order.

“We will be taking a strong stance in enforcing the restrictions; anyone who breaches them will be committing a criminal offence… and could be arrested.”

Police said the security operation will include search teams, mounted police, road policing units, armed officers, neighbourhood patrols and Project Servator teams.

Authorities also plan to deploy CCTV surveillance and hostile vehicle barriers to ensure the safety of dignitaries, visitors and residents during the visit.

Residents and visitors were urged to remain alert and report suspicious activities by contacting police via 101, or 999 in case of an emergency.
