What If Tinubu Uses His Nigerian Old Man Sense To Tackle The Current Diplomatic Crisis With The United States In The Following Manner? -By Joe Dauda
What if (with a clear desire to have America’s superior intel and firepower in play) he pretends to ignore Trump’s warning just to provoke him? What if he deliberately dilly-dallied and acted like he was not taking the matter seriously, all the while hoping that Trump would lose his temper and carry out his threat?
The threat of the Americans is specific. If x and y does not happen:
According to Donald Trump:
We will go into that country guns-a-blazing to wipe out the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these crimes. If we attack, it will be fast, vicious, and sweet, just like the terrorist thugs attack our CHERISHED Christians.
And according to Pete Hegseth, the Secretary of War:
Either the Nigerian government protects Christians, or we will kill the Islamic Terrorists who are committing these horrible atrocities.
The summary is that the threat of the Americans is not against the Nigerian people or the Nigerian government, but against the Terrorists which, everybody agrees, are killing Christians but also killing Muslims too, even if not to the same degree.
Instead of spending Nigerian money, using Nigerian military equipment, and trying to engage the terrorists (which is likely going to cause the lose of more soldiers) what if BAT played smart by playing dumb?
What if (with a clear desire to have America’s superior intel and firepower in play) he pretends to ignore Trump’s warning just to provoke him? What if he deliberately dilly-dallied and acted like he was not taking the matter seriously, all the while hoping that Trump would lose his temper and carry out his threat?
And then when the threat is carried out and the terrorists have actually been wiped out (with virtually no political backlash for Tinubu from those who opposed engagement with the US and relief from those who did) he can then emerge from his chamber and make some political noise just to placate all aggrieved parties. And then go on to enjoy the benefits of the strike by having a Nigeria rid of the terrorists, a happy Christian population and a safer Muslim population that no longer has to worry about being killed by the terrorists, bearing in mind that this latter argument was the basis of the rejection of the accusation of genocide against Christians.
What if BAT played this diplomatic crisis this way?
Methinks he will come out as the winner and almost completely unscathed politically.
Just my humble opinion.
What do you think?
