2027 Election: ‘Tinubu Did the Job by Showing Up’, APC Replies Critics Over Kaduna Rally Speech
APC spokesman Felix Morka defends Tinubu’s Kaduna rally speech, saying the event focused on appreciating supporters and mobilising for the 2027 election.
The All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded to criticism of President Bola Tinubu’s speech at its Kaduna rally, saying his appearance at the event was enough to fulfil its purpose ahead of the 2027 presidential election.
Felix Morka, the party’s National Publicity Secretary, argued that the rally was meant to bring party supporters together and appreciate their loyalty, rather than provide an elaborate policy address.
Speaking on ARISE News on Tuesday, Morka addressed questions about whether Tinubu’s speech at Saturday’s rally lacked substance.
He said, “All the president needed to do was to show up and say to the people in Kaduna, ‘Thank you for your hospitality, I appreciate your support, please do so again in 2027.’ If that’s all he said, he did the job.”
Morka further argued that campaign rallies should not be judged by the length or depth of speeches delivered by political leaders.
“A campaign rally of that kind in Kaduna is not a policy dialogue where speeches should be given. Even if the president came there and danced and said to the people, ‘I appreciate you, thank you so much,’ and left the stage, he had done the job,” he stated.
According to the APC spokesman, the event was organised to bring together party members, leaders, supporters and other well-wishers to welcome Tinubu. He added that those who planned the rally were best placed to evaluate its success.
The rally took place in Kaduna on Saturday, October 24, as the APC intensified its mobilisation activities ahead of the 2027 general elections.
At the event, Tinubu took aim at opposition figures who had accused his administration of contributing to hunger and poverty in the country.
“I hear my opponents talking about hunger and poverty. Who created it? They did. They created the hunger. They created the poverty we are trying to eradicate,” he said.
The president also defended his government’s record, declaring, “We pay salaries regularly. Our governors are working. I am proud of them. They are developing.”
Tinubu urged Nigerians to support his bid for a second term, promising “prosperity, continuity, progress and development”.
“To you, the children of our country, it is a promise of second-term prosperity. You will not regret going to vote,” the president said.
