ADC Denies Rumours of Leadership Transition, Calls Report on Mark and Nwosu Fake

The African Democratic Congress has refuted claims that Senator David Mark stepped aside as national chairman in favour of former chairman Ralph Nwosu ahead of its upcoming national convention.

The party responded after an online report alleged that Mark exited his position amid internal tensions and mounting pressure within the party’s structure, particularly following developments involving the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

The publication further suggested that Nwosu was being considered to guide the party through its convention and strengthen its organisation ahead of the 2027 elections.

The ADC, however, rejected the report, maintaining that no such change had occurred.

In a statement shared on social media, the party’s spokesperson, Bolaji Abdullahi, described the claim as false and urged the public to disregard it.

“Please note that reports circulating about a change in the leadership of the ADC are #FakeNews. Please disregard, flag, and report such content on any social media platform where you encounter it,” he wrote.

The clarification follows INEC’s recent removal of the names of the party’s National Working Committee led by Mark from its website. The commission explained that the action was in line with a Court of Appeal ruling ordering parties involved in the dispute to maintain the status quo pending the resolution of a substantive case before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The ruling, delivered on March 12, 2026, directed all parties to refrain from any actions that could influence the outcome of the case.

The ADC has continued to face internal divisions, with rival factions led by Nafiu Gombe and David Mark both laying claim to the party’s leadership.

While INEC has maintained its position, the Mark-led faction has challenged the commission’s interpretation of the court order, even calling for INEC’s dissolution while pushing ahead with plans for a national convention.

The party has scheduled its convention for April 14 in Abuja, despite the ongoing leadership tussle.
