ABUJA — Atiku Abubakar has declared that he will not seek the Nigerian presidency again after the 2027 general election, regardless of the outcome of his latest bid.

The former Vice President and presidential candidate of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) made the announcement in a Hausa-language interview on Wednesday, responding to a question on whether he would return for another presidential contest in 2031 if he failed to win in 2027.

“No, I have said it before, right from this election, I will not contest again,” Atiku stated.

Having made several attempts to become president, Atiku urged eligible voters, particularly those who possess Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs), to come out in large numbers during the 2027 election.

He said active participation in the electoral process was necessary for Nigerians to influence the direction of the country and address the problems confronting them.

Atiku further encouraged voters to remain at their polling units after voting and monitor the counting of ballots to ensure their votes were accurately captured.

“First of all, I appeal to those who have voter cards, for their own sake, their families, and their future, to go out and vote. That is the solution to the problems they are facing.

“After going out to vote, they should also stay, escort, and ensure that those votes are counted,” he said.

Addressing questions about his health and capacity to serve as president, Atiku rejected suggestions that he was physically incapable of handling the responsibilities of the office.

“No doctor has declared that I am unfit in terms of health. I know my body, I know I am healthy, and I do not have a single defect,” he said.
