African Stars Deliver Across Europe as Salah, Beto Score in Liverpool’s Derby Win
Salah equals Steven Gerrard’s derby record as African players shine in England, Germany, and France.
Mohamed Salah and Beto headlined a strong weekend for African players in Europe, both scoring in Liverpool’s 2-1 triumph over Everton in the Merseyside derby.
Salah gave Liverpool the lead in the first half, finishing from a Cody Gakpo pass to register his seventh Premier League goal of the campaign. The Egyptian forward also matched Steven Gerrard’s record of nine goals in the derby.
Everton drew level early in the second half when Beto finished from close range after a cross by Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall, beating goalkeeper Giorgi Mamardashvili, who was later taken off on a stretcher.
Liverpool’s victory boosted their chances of qualifying for the Champions League, with the club sitting fifth and holding a seven-point advantage over Chelsea with five games left.
