The Federal Airports Authority of Nigeria (FAAN) has stepped up health surveillance at all international airports amid renewed Ebola Virus Disease (EVD) concerns in Central Africa.

FAAN said the preventive actions are being implemented in collaboration with Port Health Services and the Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention to monitor and screen incoming passengers, particularly those from affected regions.

According to FAAN spokesperson Henry Agbebire, passengers showing symptoms consistent with Ebola will be immediately isolated for further medical evaluation.

“Any suspected case will be promptly isolated and subjected to secondary health checks in line with established national and international health protocols,” he said.

The agency noted that it has also strengthened internal coordination, trained staff on response procedures, and improved emergency readiness across airports.

“Additionally, FAAN has strengthened coordination with relevant stakeholders, enhanced staff sensitisation, and reinforced emergency response procedures to ensure swift action where necessary,” the statement added.

FAAN reassured Nigerians that no Ebola case has been confirmed in the country, stressing that all necessary precautions are being taken to maintain safety.

“While there is currently no confirmed case of Ebola in Nigeria, FAAN remains vigilant and fully committed to safeguarding public health and maintaining safe airport operations,” it said, urging passengers to cooperate with health officials during screening.
