An emotional video of João Pedro’s family reacting to his omission from Brazil’s 2026 FIFA World Cup squad has gone viral after coach Carlo Ancelotti selected Neymar instead.

An emotional video showing the family of João Pedro waiting for his name during Brazil’s World Cup squad announcement has gone viral after the striker was left out of the final team for the 2026 FIFA World Cup.

The footage captured relatives and close associates of the Chelsea forward gathered around a television as coach Carlo Ancelotti unveiled Brazil’s squad.

Their hopes were dashed when Pedro’s name was not included among the selected players.

Brazilian reports later claimed that Ancelotti and the Brazilian Football Confederation had prepared two different squad options ahead of the announcement — one involving Pedro and another including Neymar.

Pedro was reportedly considered as cover in case Neymar was ruled out after experiencing calf discomfort during Santos FC’s match against Coritiba.

However, once Neymar was confirmed fit, Ancelotti opted for the experienced forward.

Addressing the selection process, the Italian coach admitted leaving João Pedro out was a difficult call.

“It was very difficult to choose these 26 players. The competition in this country is very, very high,” Ancelotti stated.

“We’re very sorry about João Pedro, because with the season he had in Europe, he deserved to be on this list. But unfortunately, we chose another player.”

Reacting afterward, Pedro said he accepted the disappointment calmly despite missing out on his World Cup dream.

“I tried to give my best at all times. Unfortunately, it wasn’t possible to fulfil this dream of representing my country in a World Cup,” he said.

The Brazilian forward enjoyed an impressive season, scoring 20 goals and registering nine assists, which had fuelled expectations that he would earn a place in the national team squad.
