Falz Explains Why He Has Never Publicly Backed Any Politician

Award-winning Nigerian rapper and activist Falz says he has never publicly endorsed any politician or political party, maintaining that his commitment has always been to promoting voter participation and credible elections rather than supporting individual candidates.

Speaking about Nigeria’s democratic process, the entertainer stressed that his message before and after the 2023 elections has consistently been for citizens to exercise their voting rights.

“Just a point of correction: I’ve never, in 2023 or at any point, openly supported any politician or political party. I’ve only actively encouraged people to go out to vote and get their intentions known,” Falz said.

According to him, strengthening democracy depends on free and fair elections where citizens are able to express their choices through the ballot.

“What I clamor for is a free and fair democratic process… people go out to vote. These, I think, are very important to strengthen our democracy in this country,” he stated.

Falz explained that he has remained cautious about endorsing politicians because he believes Nigeria continues to recycle the same political class.

“We’ve been going in cycles, and it just seems like almost the same crop of people we keep on reshuffling… it’s tough to even sit anywhere and vouch for a Nigerian politician in 2026,” he said.

While leaving the door open to supporting a future candidate he fully believes in, the rapper insisted he would not do so lightly.

He also dismissed the belief that voting is meaningless.

“If it didn’t matter, there wouldn’t be vote-buying if it didn’t matter,” he said.

Falz concluded by advocating the live electronic transmission of election results, saying greater transparency and significantly higher voter turnout are crucial to protecting the integrity of future elections.
