GHSM Says Adeleke’s Tinubu Backing Could Threaten 2026 Reelection Chances

GHSM says Governor Ademola Adeleke’s continued support for President Bola Tinubu could weaken his 2026 reelection chances and create divisions within the Accord Party.

The support group of Accord Party presidential candidate Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim has warned that Osun State Governor Ademola Adeleke risks undermining his 2026 reelection prospects if he continues supporting President Bola Tinubu over the interests of the Accord Party.

The Gbenga Hashim Solidarity Movement (GHSM) issued the warning in response to comments reportedly made by Osun Accord Party Chairman Pastor Victor Akande, who questioned the presidential candidate’s standing within the party.

Reacting in a statement on Monday, GHSM South-West Coordinator Alhaji Abass Olaniyi described the chairman’s remarks as misleading, insisting they were based on a misrepresentation of political events.

The group stressed that Adeleke’s endorsement of Tinubu was made before he joined the Accord Party and therefore should not be viewed as reflecting the party’s national position.

GHSM recalled that the Osun PDP leadership endorsed Tinubu for a second term in July 2025 while Adeleke was still in the PDP, adding that it rejected the endorsement because it did not align with its political objectives.

According to the movement, the Accord Party’s national leadership subsequently invited Olawepo-Hashim in March 2026 to lead its presidential project ahead of the 2027 election, with the process ending in his emergence as the party’s presidential candidate through direct primaries.

“The facts are clear. Governor Adeleke endorsed President Tinubu before joining Accord Party. Also, Accord Party’s national leadership invited Dr. Gbenga Olawepo-Hashim to provide presidential leadership for the party, and he emerged as the presidential candidate through open direct primaries,” GHSM stated.

The group argued that allowing personal ambitions to outweigh party decisions could weaken the Accord Party just as internal divisions affected the PDP.

“Accord Party must not travel the same path that weakened PDP. A political party cannot survive when individual calculations are placed above the collective aspirations of its members,” Abass said.

GHSM further revealed that 24 Accord Party state chairmen have endorsed Olawepo-Hashim while confirming that the dispute over the party’s presidential primary is currently before the Federal High Court in Abuja.

The movement said it would avoid further public comments on the legal matter and appealed to party members to remain united, maintaining that Adeleke’s chances of retaining office would depend on the cohesion of the party platform.

It also reaffirmed its commitment to Olawepo-Hashim’s presidential bid, describing his campaign as one built on competence, institutional reform, political renewal and national transformation.
