Nigeria police IGP - Olukayode Egbetokun

Since the assumption of office by the Inspector General of Police, IGP Kayode Adeolu Egbetokun, the Nigeria Police Force has witnessed a remarkable transformation in welfare, discipline, and professionalism.

One of the most commendable initiatives under his leadership is the free and fair distribution of police uniforms, boots, berets, belts, and other essential kits to every rank-and-file personnel across the country.

On January 18, 2025, IGP Egbetokun approved the distribution of new kits and uniforms to personnel of the Nigeria Police Force in other ranks.

This initiative is not just about providing clothing; it is a deliberate step towards fostering better working conditions, boosting morale, and enhancing the professional appearance of the Force.

It aligns perfectly with the IGP’s vision to modernise the police system and instil pride and dignity in officers as they serve and protect the nation.

The impact of this gesture has been widely felt. On August 29, 2025, policemen in Gombe State publicly commended the IGP following the distribution of customised police kits to officers and men of the Gombe Police Command.

Their excitement and appreciation reflected a renewed sense of belonging and confidence, knowing that their welfare is being taken seriously by the leadership at the top.

It is worthy of note that IGP Egbetokun has maintained zero tolerance for corruption or any form of exploitation within the Force.

He has made it clear that hoarding or selling government-provided uniforms and equipment to subordinates is an act that will not be condoned.

These items are supplied by the Federal Government for free distribution to officers, and any attempt to commercialise or divert them is both unethical and criminal.

By ensuring fair distribution and transparency in the process, IGP Egbetokun is not only upholding integrity but also setting a new standard of accountability within the Force.

His leadership style demonstrates that genuine reform begins with fairness, welfare, and the elimination of corruption at the grassroots level.

Indeed, this proactive approach deserves commendation. The provision of quality uniforms and kits may seem basic, but in reality, it symbolises respect for the men and women who risk their lives daily to secure our communities.

When officers are properly kitted, respected, and motivated, their performance and discipline naturally improve, and that is the true essence of effective policing.

Under IGP Egbetokun’s leadership, the Nigeria Police Force is steadily regaining its pride and professionalism.
