The Kano State Government has announced that the Emir of Kano, Muhammad Sanusi II, will lead the Eid-el-Fitr durbar, even as security measures are heightened across the state.

In a statement on Wednesday, the Commissioner for Information and Internal Affairs, Ibrahim Waiya, said the decision was reached after consultations with the Kano Emirate Council and other stakeholders.

He disclosed that intelligence reports indicated possible plans to disrupt the celebrations, necessitating precautionary steps to maintain order.

Waiya stressed that the government remains dedicated to preserving cultural traditions but will prioritise peace and public safety.

He explained that the Hawan Idi durbar will commence from Kofar Mata Eid praying ground, proceed through approved routes to Gidan Shettima, and conclude at Kofar Fatalwa within the emir’s palace.

The Hawan Nasarawa procession, he said, will be held in a modified format without horseback participation.

Meanwhile, the government has suspended other key events such as Hawan Daushe, Hawan Fanisau, and Hawan Dorayi due to security concerns.

Security agencies have been placed on alert and instructed to increase monitoring throughout the festive period.

Waiya urged residents to remain law-abiding and avoid spreading unverified reports, assuring that efforts are in place to ensure a peaceful Sallah.

He also extended Sallah greetings to Muslims across the state.
