President Volodymyr Zelensky said at least five deaths had been confirmed, while 10 people were admitted to hospital with injuries and trauma following the incident in a residential district of the capital.

“The attacker in Kyiv who opened fire on civilians has been eliminated,” Zelensky wrote on social media, extending “condolences to the families and loved ones” of those killed.

He further confirmed that “four hostages have been rescued.”
