Nigerians Are Suffering: Our Leaders Must Wake Up Now -By Yasir Shehu Adam

Today, many Nigerians are struggling to survive. Life has become harder than ever since the removal of fuel subsidy. Prices of food, transport, and basic needs have gone beyond what ordinary citizens can afford. Yet, in the middle of all this suffering, we do not see enough action from those who were elected to serve the people.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, we know the decision to remove fuel subsidy was made with the hope of building a stronger economy, but the reality on the ground is bitter. Nigerians are facing serious hardship. We need your urgent attention. It is not enough to announce palliatives or allowances—what we need is clear, practical action that touches the lives of ordinary people.

To the state governors and our representatives in the Senate and House of Representatives: be very careful. The allowances and funds that come from the federal government, especially the money shared after the subsidy removal, are meant for the people, not for personal gain. Unfortunately, in many states, these funds are not making any difference in the lives of citizens.

In Bauchi State, for example, there is no visible human development project that reflects the billions received as part of this subsidy removal arrangement. Our schools remain poor, our hospitals lack equipment and medicine, and job creation is only a dream. This is not the promise you made to us.

Leadership is not about sitting in big offices or riding in expensive cars. It is about service, about using public resources for public good. Any leader who ignores the cries of his people is forgetting that one day, he will give an account before Almighty God.

Let this be a reminder:

Invest in education so our children can have a future.

Fix our health system so that the poor can live with dignity.

Create opportunities for jobs and empower young people.

Be transparent with the funds sent to your state.

To President Tinubu, please hear the voices of the masses. Nigerians are loyal and patient, but hunger and hardship are growing by the day. Call the governors to order, demand results from them, and ensure that every naira released reaches the people.

Nothing lasts forever. Power is temporary, but the legacy you leave behind will remain. Let that legacy be one of service, justice, and true development. May Almighty Allah guide our leaders to do what is right for the people.
