Uba Sani

Kaduna, In what observers describe as one of the most remarkable peace building achievements in recent West African governance, findings have shown that Governor Uba Sani of Kaduna State has within a short period redefined the model of community security and stability across Northern Nigeria.

An investigation conducted by this reporter revealed that the Kaduna State Government, under Governor Sani’s leadership, has developed what is now known as the “Kaduna Peace Model”, a multi-layered framework combining security operations, dialogue, education, and social investment to restore lasting peace in the state.

Kaduna Peace Model Gains National Attention

My findings indicate that the model’s core philosophy is that security cannot be achieved by the use of force alone. Governor Uba Sani’s administration has instead emphasized non-kinetic approaches, promoting peace through dialogue, empowerment, and inclusion.

One of the clearest examples of this strategy is the state’s partnership with The Kukah Centre, aimed at strengthening community-based security structures. The collaboration focuses on training community leaders, building trust among citizens, and improving coordination between security agencies and local vigilante groups.

Regional Security Dialogue in Kaduna

Kaduna recently hosted the Northern Regional Security Conference, bringing together governors, security chiefs, and civil society leaders to deliberate on strategies for preventing and countering violent extremism (PCVE).

In reports reviewed during this investigation, the governor emphasized that the battle against insecurity requires not just weapons, but wisdom, unity, and community ownership.

Rapid Improvements in Peace and Development

Data gathered from diplomatic and independent security sources show clear progress. The United Kingdom government recently upgraded Kaduna’s international travel advisory from “red” to “amber,” citing tangible improvements in safety.

This progress is also evident on the ground. Rehabilitated roads, schools, and hospitals have not only improved living conditions but also reduced social tension and poverty-induced crime. Many displaced families have begun returning to their communities.

Officials from Ahmadu Bello University, Zaria, have also acknowledged the improvement, noting that field research and outreach activities in previously volatile areas have resumed without major incident.

Kuriga Kidnap Incident: A Turning Point

In March 2024, gunmen abducted pupils and teachers from Kuriga community in Chikun Local Government Area. However, through swift coordination between security agencies and the state government, 137 victims were rescued within days.

My review of security records confirmed that this rapid response was made possible by the communication structure introduced under the Kaduna Peace Model, ensuring real-time information flow between communities and the military.

Rebuilding Trust Across Communities

Governor Uba Sani’s peace efforts go beyond emergency response. His administration has focused on rebuilding trust through inclusivity. Women, youth, traditional rulers, and faith-based organizations are now regularly engaged in policy discussions.

Micro-credit schemes and youth empowerment programs have also been launched across rural areas, helping to address unemployment and crime at their roots.

Model Recognized Nationally

According to findings, the National Security Adviser, Mallam Nuhu Ribadu, recently commended Kaduna State’s approach, describing it as a model worth replicating nationwide.

Despite remaining security challenges in isolated rural communities, the pace of progress is considered exceptional. The transformation has elevated Kaduna from being one of the most insecure states to a reference point for effective leadership and strategic peacebuilding.

From the evidence gathered in this investigation, no governor in West Africa has achieved such rapid and measurable progress in restoring peace as Governor Uba Sani.

Through a balance of security force coordination, social inclusion, and visionary leadership, he has proven that sustainable peace can indeed be achieved, not just through power, but through partnership, patience, and purpose.
