Osun Governorship Poll: Oyetola, APC Candidate Oyebamiji Vote as Alleged Vote Buying Surfaces in Ikire

Former Osun State Governor and current Minister of Marine and Blue Economy, Gboyega Oyetola, alongside the All Progressives Congress (APC) governorship candidate, Bola Oyebamiji, have participated in the ongoing Osun governorship election.

Oyetola cast his ballot at Ward 1, Unit 10, Iragbiji, in Boripe Local Government Area.

In Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, Oyebamiji and his wife completed their accreditation at Ward 9, Polling Unit 011, Gantry Area, before casting their votes.

Voting is taking place across all 30 local government areas of Osun State as electorates decide who will lead the state for the next four years.

Alleged Vote Buying Reported

At AUD Primary School, Atile, Ikire, Irewole Local Government Area, agents of both the Accord Party and APC were reportedly seen engaging in alleged vote-buying activities.

Vanguard observed that agents of the parties positioned themselves close to polling booths, apparently to monitor voters and their ballot papers and ensure they voted for their respective candidates.

According to the observation, voters were allegedly given tags by party agents after casting their ballots, with the tags reportedly used to claim cash.

An Accord Party agent, Ajayi Ayodele, accused APC agents of clustering around the polling booths in order to monitor the ballot papers of voters.

However, Accord Party agents were also reportedly involved in the alleged vote-buying activity. One of the party’s agents was seen directing voters to another location after voting, where they were expected to collect their funds.
