French President Emmanuel Macron stated on Friday that he was still optimistic that Kylian Mbappe, the captain of the national team, will be able to represent his nation in the forthcoming Olympics in Paris.

When students asked Macron during a visit to a school in the French capital, he said “I hope he will be able to play at the Olympic Games”

Prior to Real Madrid’s recent warning that none of its players would be allowed to compete in the Olympics, Mbappe had expressed his intention to play for France at the Games.

Currently a member of Paris Saint-Germain, the 25-year-old forward who won the World Cup has informed the Ligue 1 team that he plans to depart when his contract expires at the end of this season, with Madrid being his likely next destination.

Clubs are under no duty to release players for the Olympic football event because it does not coincide with FIFA dates for international matches.

The competition is for Under-23 players, with a squad consisting of three overage players. At Euro 2024, which takes place in Germany from June 14 to July 14, Mbappe will lead France.

Starting on July 24 and lasting until August 9, the Olympic football competition has France in a group with the United States, New Zealand, and an unidentified team.

Macron also stated that he would go to Germany for the semi-finals and final of Euro 2024 should Les Bleus get there.

“I will go if we are in the semi-finals or in the final,” he said, pointing out that the final in Berlin falls on France’s national day, July 14.
