President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has approved the appointment of Professor Segun Aina as the next registrar of the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board ahead of the expiration of Professor Is-haq Oloyede’s tenure on July 31, 2026.

Aina, a professor of computer engineering at Obafemi Awolowo University, Ile-Ife, is regarded as a specialist in examination systems, digital infrastructure and institutional reform.

The 39-year-old academic studied Computer Systems Engineering at the University of Kent before earning an MSc in Internet Computing and Network Security and a PhD in Digital Signal Processing from Loughborough University.

He also attended the Senior Management Programme at Lagos Business School.

According to the presidency, Aina first worked with JAMB during his National Youth Service and gained practical experience in admissions administration and institutional data systems.

That exposure, the statement noted, shaped his later involvement in examination reforms and digital transformation projects.

With more than 15 years of professional experience, Aina has advised federal and state governments on technology policy, digital transition and institutional restructuring.

He also made history as one of Nigeria’s youngest professors of computer engineering at age 39 and is expected to become JAMB’s youngest registrar.

The incoming registrar has worked with examination agencies including National Examinations Council and National Business and Technical Examinations Board, particularly in the areas of ICT deployment, examination integrity and digital process optimisation.

Aina belongs to several engineering and technology professional bodies, including the Council for the Regulation of Engineering in Nigeria, Nigerian Society of Engineers, Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the Institution of Engineering and Technology.

Presidential spokesman Bayo Onanuga said President Tinubu believes Aina’s expertise will help strengthen the examination body and build on the achievements of the outgoing registrar.

“President Tinubu expects Professor Aina to bring to bear his vast experience, knowledge and practical insight into the operations of the Board,” the statement read.
