The Anambra State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) has exhumed the corpse of 52-year-old Chinedu Ezeani in Amichi, Nnewi South Local Government Area, following allegations that he was killed by his cousin, Chukwudalu Ezeani, 35.

The victim had been reported missing eight months ago. Police said the investigation took a new turn after credible intelligence led to the arrest of the suspect.

According to the Anambra State Police Command, the alleged crime occurred on August 1, 2025, around 8:00 p.m. at the suspect’s residence in Afube Village. The suspect reportedly murdered Chinedu Ezeani and buried him in a shallow grave within the compound.

The suspect confessed during interrogation and led detectives to the burial site, where the body was exhumed. Police spokesperson Tochukwu Ikenga confirmed that the remains have been deposited in a mortuary for forensic examination, with court proceedings to follow.

“The case, initially reported as a missing person incident at Amichi Police Station, was later revisited by detectives following credible intelligence, leading to the arrest of the suspect,” Ikenga said.

In a separate case, the police arraigned 21-year-old apprentice Chiemerie Anieke for allegedly murdering his employer, Ikechukwu Nwite, in Fegge, Onitsha. He was joined in court by Godwin Nnabuike Nwokporo, 21, who allegedly aided the crime.

Police stated that Anieke allegedly attacked his employer with a pestle and was linked to an assault on the victim’s sister. Over N8 million belonging to the deceased was reportedly fraudulently transferred through a bank account connected to the second suspect, of which N6 million has been recovered and tendered as evidence.

Both suspects remain in custody as investigations continue. Police reiterated their commitment to enforcing justice and warned that all offenders would face the law.
