Sultan of Sokoto

The Sultan of Sokoto, Muhammadu Sa’ad Abubakar III has turbaned Alhaji Ahmed Bello Danbaba as Senior Councillor in the Sultanate Council, alongside 26 new District Heads, in a strategic effort to bolster traditional governance structures in Sokoto State.

The colourful event at the Sultan’s Palace drew top traditional leaders, government officials, Islamic scholars, and community dignitaries. The appointments, approved by Governor Ahmed Aliyu, fill longstanding vacancies and aim to reinforce community leadership at the grassroots level.

Danbaba’s elevation as Magajin Garin Sokoto carries historical weight: he is a descendant of Ahmadu Bello and the eldest son of the late Alhaji Hassan Danbaba, who previously served as Magajin Garin Sokoto and Senior Councillor.

The Sultan charged the new appointees to uphold justice, integrity, and compassion in serving their communities.

“You must be fair and just in dealing with your people,” he said, stressing the role of traditional rulers in promoting peace, unity, and social stability.

He also highlighted the need for traditional institutions to collaborate with government initiatives in security, education, and socio-economic development, calling such cooperation vital for tackling modern challenges, particularly in rural communities.

The ceremony ended with prayers for peace and continued development in Sokoto State and Nigeria, celebrating the new custodians of traditional authority.
