Tottenham Fight for Survival as Salah and Guardiola Near Emotional Premier League Exit

Tottenham need a result to stay up as Champions League and European qualification battles unfold alongside emotional exits for top figures.

Tottenham Hotspur head into Sunday needing at least a point against Everton to confirm their Premier League safety, while Mohamed Salah and Pep Guardiola prepare for emotional farewells.

Champions League and European qualification battles remain wide open, with Liverpool, Bournemouth, Brighton, Brentford, Chelsea, and Sunderland all involved in crucial end-of-season permutations.

AFP Sport breaks down three major talking points:

Spurs under pressure for survival and pride
Tottenham’s season has shifted dramatically from last year’s Europa League triumph over Manchester United to a tense relegation battle.

Head coach Roberto De Zerbi described the importance of the Everton fixture in stark terms.

“There is something more important than the trophy and the bonus,” he said. “There is the future of the club, there is the history of the club, there is the pride of the players, there is the pride of the families of the players.

“There is the dignity of every one of us.”

A draw would secure safety due to goal difference, but defeat could leave Spurs vulnerable depending on results elsewhere, including West Ham’s match against Leeds.

European race goes down to the wire
Liverpool aim to seal a top-five finish in Mohamed Salah’s farewell appearance at Anfield, securing Champions League football after a difficult campaign.

Salah voiced frustration after last week’s defeat to Aston Villa, calling for a return to Liverpool’s former attacking identity under Jurgen Klopp.

“I want to see Liverpool go back to being the heavy metal attacking team that opponents fear and back to being a team that wins trophies,” he said.

“Qualifying to next season’s Champions League is the bare minimum and I will do everything I can to make that happen,” he added.

Liverpool sit three points and six goals ahead of Bournemouth, with multiple clubs still chasing European places across the table.

Icons set for final Premier League moments
Questions remain over whether Arne Slot will start Mohamed Salah, who recently returned from injury, in what could be his last game at Anfield.

Liverpool have struggled without him, failing to win any of their nine league matches in 2026 when he has not started.

At Manchester City, Pep Guardiola is set to depart after a historic tenure featuring 20 trophies, including six Premier League titles and a Champions League triumph.

“It’s been the experience of my life,” Guardiola said following confirmation of his exit.
