Tuchel Recalls Maguire, Mainoo in England Squad for Uruguay, Japan Friendlies

Thomas Tuchel has included Harry Maguire and Kobbie Mainoo in his latest England national football team squad for pre-World Cup matches against Uruguay and Japan.

The 35-man list also features returning striker Dominic Calvert-Lewin, while James Garner and Jason Steele receive maiden call-ups.

There are also inclusions for Fikayo Tomori and Dominic Solanke, but no spots for Trent Alexander-Arnold or Luke Shaw.

Jude Bellingham makes the squad despite a recent hamstring injury that has kept him out since early February.

Maguire and Mainoo, who last featured in September 2024, return after strong performances with Manchester United, while Shaw is again omitted, with Lewis Hall among those selected.

Explaining the larger squad, Tuchel said: “We decided to divide it into basically two camps almost, so we bring players in that we haven’t seen who haven’t played so much to open up the picture and the competition for plane tickets to the US.

“Then from Friday and Saturday, a group of players will come into camp — 10 or 11 players who get a rest before and we will then go with a new group and mix of players into the match against Japan.”

England are set to play Uruguay at Wembley on March 27 and Japan on March 31, as preparations continue for the World Cup in North America, which begins on June 11.
