Media Chat - Wike

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has said reconciliation efforts within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will continue after the party’s March 29 and 30 National Convention.

He brushed aside legal challenges from the Tanimu Turaki group, maintaining that the party remains focused on unity and stability.

“There is room for accommodation. The PDP is a very large party… it is wide enough to accommodate everyone,” Wike stated.

He noted that grievances are natural in a large political organisation.

“In any group, there will be grievances… there will always be a few who are not happy. We have agreed to sit down with them… What is most important is the overall interest of the party.”

Wike made the remarks after inspecting the convention venue at the Velodrome of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium.

He was joined by key stakeholders, including Okezie Ikpeazu, Senator Mao Ohuabunwa, and Mohammed Abdulrahman.

On leadership arrangements, Wike confirmed that zoning decisions have been concluded.

“The presidency has been zoned to the South, while the chairmanship is zoned to the North,” he said, adding that the consensus model would simplify the process.

He emphasised that the party is more united than in previous conventions.

“For the first time… there are no factions. Everyone has agreed on the direction we are taking.”

Following his inspection, Wike expressed satisfaction with preparations.

“We are about 95 percent ready… seating arrangements for all states have been completed… we do not expect more than 2,500 delegates.”
