The Anambra State Police Command has launched a manhunt for suspected hoodlums who attacked the convoy of Governor Chukwuma Soludo’s Chief of Staff, Dr. Ben Nwankwo, leaving two policemen feared dead.

The attack occurred along the Amansea–Ufuma Road on Sunday night, although Dr. Nwankwo escaped without injury.

Following the incident, Anambra Commissioner of Police, Ikioye Orutugu, convened an emergency security meeting and ordered all police formations and tactical units in the state to track down the perpetrators within 48 hours.

According to Orutugu, the attack represents a serious challenge to state security and requires an immediate response.

“I want you to fish out the attackers and the killers of our officers. I demand immediate action to apprehend those responsible for this heinous act. I want results. The people of Anambra State must know that the police are fully in charge and ready to protect them,” he stated.

The police chief stressed that violent attacks would not be tolerated and pledged that those behind the killings would face the full weight of the law.

“This kind of killing cannot happen under my watch. We must bring the perpetrators to justice and put an end to their activities,” he said.

He further disclosed that intelligence reports indicate some criminal elements have adopted the tactic of wearing security uniforms to conceal their identities and evade detection.

Orutugu advised motorists and travellers to exercise caution when using the Amansea–Ufuma Road, describing it as an isolated corridor that has recently become a hotspot for criminal operations.

“The Amansea–Ufuma Road is a particularly isolated route. Commuters and members of the public should exercise caution while using the road, as it has, in recent times, become a den of criminal elements,” he warned.

The commissioner assured residents that security agencies were already conducting intelligence-led operations aimed at restoring safety and bringing those responsible for the attack to justice.
