Enzo Fernandez Jeered by Chelsea Supporters in Pre-Season Victory
Enzo Fernandez received a mixed reception from Chelsea supporters as he came on during the club’s 3-1 pre-season victory over Real Sociedad.
Chelsea supporters expressed mixed feelings towards Enzo Fernandez as the midfielder came off the bench during the club’s 3-1 friendly win against Real Sociedad at Stamford Bridge on Saturday.
Fernandez was introduced in the 62nd minute in place of Reece James, with sections of the Chelsea crowd booing the 25-year-old as he entered the pitch.
The reaction comes after Fernandez made his desire to leave Chelsea known in May. Despite the jeers, some supporters also showed their support for the Argentina international.
Chelsea are understood to value Fernandez at £120 million ($162 million), but the club has not received any bids for the midfielder during the current summer transfer window.
Fernandez recently scored Argentina’s equalising goal in their World Cup semi-final victory over England in July. He was later sent off as Argentina lost the final to Spain.
Chelsea’s record signing Morgan Rogers also found the net on his first appearance at Stamford Bridge, scoring from the rebound after Joao Pedro’s header was saved.
Pedro went on to settle the contest for new manager Xabi Alonso, scoring twice and taking his pre-season goal tally to eight.
Real Sociedad had briefly levelled through Jon Aramburu.
The friendly represented Chelsea’s final pre-season fixture before Alonso’s side open their Premier League campaign against local rivals Fulham.
