The Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) has confirmed that four persons lost their lives in a lone accident on the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway on Sunday night.

The incident, involving a commercial Toyota Hiace bus, occurred at about 9:18 p.m. near Christopher University.

Speaking on the development, Ogun State Sector Commander, Akinwunmi Fasakin, said emergency responders arrived at the scene shortly after receiving a distress call.

“The FRSC Mowe Unit Command responded promptly to the distress call and arrived at the crash scene within two minutes,” he noted.

A total of 13 people were involved in the crash, including 11 men and two women.

“Out of the 13 persons involved, eight sustained varying degrees of injuries, while four adult males unfortunately lost their lives in the crash,” Fasakin said.

He explained that the accident was caused by a tyre burst and excessive speed, stressing that both remain leading causes of road crashes.

“The suspected causes of the crash were tyre burst and speed violation,” he added.

The injured were taken to Famobis Hospital for treatment, while the remains of the deceased were moved to the Idera Morgue.

The damaged vehicle has been handed over to the Motor Traffic Division of the Redeemed Police Station for further investigation.

Fasakin extended condolences to the victims’ families and advised motorists to ensure proper vehicle maintenance and adhere to speed limits.

“We sympathise with the families of the victims… and urge all road users to obey speed limits and ensure that their tyres are in good condition,” he said.

The FRSC reaffirmed its commitment to road safety and called for public cooperation in preventing avoidable accidents.
