Authorities in Iran have executed a man accused of working for Israel and the United States during anti-government protests earlier this year.

The judiciary confirmed the execution of Ali Fahim on Monday via its Mizan Online platform.

“Ali Fahim, one of the enemy elements in the terrorist riots of Dey (January)… was hanged after the Supreme Court reviewed the case and confirmed the verdict,” the statement said.

The protests began in late December as demonstrations against rising living costs but later evolved into broader nationwide unrest, reaching a peak in early January.

Officials said Fahim was convicted of cooperating with foreign powers and infiltrating a classified military facility to seize weapons.

Iranian authorities described the protests as having been hijacked by external actors, saying they turned into violent disturbances involving killings and vandalism.

The execution comes as tensions between Iran, Israel, and the United States continue following the outbreak of conflict on February 28.

According to Tehran, over 3,000 people died during the unrest, including security forces and civilians, with officials blaming “terrorist acts.”

In contrast, the Human Rights Activists News Agency estimates the death toll at more than 7,000, with most victims identified as protesters.
