Senator Mohammed Ali Ndume has condemned renewed attacks by Boko Haram/ISWAP insurgents on two communities in Borno State, describing the situation as deeply troubling.

The attacks, which occurred on Saturday, targeted Ashigashiya village in Gwoza LGA and Kopul village in Askira-Uba LGA.

In Ashigashiya, a disabled man was killed after his home was set ablaze by the attackers. Several houses were also burned, while food supplies and livestock were looted.

In Kopul, although there were no reported fatalities, extensive destruction of homes and shops forced residents to flee for safety.

Reacting in an interview in Maiduguri, Ndume extended his condolences to victims and urged the Federal Government to urgently enhance the capacity of security agencies.

“Our Nigerian Armed Forces are doing their best in fighting Boko Haram/ISWAP terrorists, but they are handicapped in terms of weapons,” he said.

He emphasised the need for immediate action: “There is an urgent need for the federal government to Train, Equip, Arm, and Motivate (TEAM) the military forces.”

The senator also advocated for modern warfare tools, stating: “Our military and other security agencies should have access to Mine Resistant Ambush Protected (MRAP) vehicles, fighter jets and drones if we really want to end Boko Haram.”

Ndume, however, acknowledged the efforts of the Nigerian Armed Forces, security personnel, and local support groups such as the Civilian Joint Task Force and vigilantes.

He further commended Cameroonian forces for their quick response, which he said helped prevent the Ashigashiya attack from becoming more devastating.
