Move a Little Farther -By Gabriel Agbo

It was when Moses went deep into the wilderness that he met God. Men and women of sacrifice understand this universal / divine principle. Great things, greatness, gold, treasures are not picked from the surface. You must dig deep. You must move farther, deeper if you want to go higher. You must perform a greater sacrifice, or go extra mile, if you want to be extraordinary. Moses went farther. Let’s also look at the Master himself. Jesus was extraordinary because he went farther.

“On the third day of the journey, Abraham saw the place in the distance. ‘Stay here with the donkey’, Abraham told the young men. ‘The boy and I will travel a little farther”     Genesis 22:4-5

A little farther! Great men with great destinies know that they should always go farther than others, farther that the ordinary. You must do what others are not doing if you want to be ahead of them. If you want to experience a special divine touch, a greater glory and anointing, a brighter medal of honor, you must move, study, pray, work harder than others, farther than the ordinary. Go extra mile! People like Abraham, Moses, Jesus, Paul and others understood this divine principle and became champions.

Look at Moses on the day that God met him at Sinai, he has been going to that wilderness tending the flock of his father – in law, Jethro the priest of Median, but that day he went a little farther and God appeared to him immediately. See it

“One day Moses was tending the flock of his farther – in-law, Jethro, the priest of Median, and he want deep into the wilderness near Sinai, the mountain of God. Suddenly the angel of the Lord appeared to him as a blazing fire in a bush. Moses was amazed because the bush was engulfed in flames but it didn’t burn up. ‘Amazing!’ Moses said to himself. ‘Why isn’t that bush burning up? I must go over to see this. When the Lord saw that he had caught Moses’ attention, God called to him from the bush, ‘Moses! Moses!”      Exodus 3:1-4

From the beginning he understood the power of moving farther. Let’s go:

“Then, accompanied by the disciples Jesus left the upstairs room and went as usual to the Mount of Olives. There he told them, ‘Pray that you will not be overcome by temptation’. He walked away, about a stone’s throw, and knelt down and prayed,”   Luke 22:39-41

That is it! That was at Gethsemane. He went to the Mount with his disciples to pray and when they settled down for business, he moved farther, further from them to do his own. He knew that he must not stay at the same level with his disciples if he must lead them. You cannot pull others up unless you stay above them. True. He came to save them, so he must live above them. That is the divine principle. A champion or would-be champion must always know that there is a sacrifice, a price to pay if you must rise above the crowd. For an athlete to beat others, he must practice more than his competitors. For a student to pass, lead others, he must study more than them. For a minister to have more anointing than others or experience more impact, grace and miracles, he must pray, live holy and study more than others. He must go beyond others. He must stay awake when others are sleeping. Fast when others are feasting. Keep move when others are giving up. There is no alternative to this principle.

A man of sacrifice goes farther and sometimes alone. I believe this was also what happened at the mount of transfiguration where Jesus was fully empowered for the work. He took only Peter, James and John to that top. Now, where were the other apostles, disciples and the crowd that always followed him? And you know how that particular ‘mountain experience’ changed those privileged apostles forever!  A little farther, a little extra effort, another trial will sure get it done. Get up now and move farther than your contemporaries if you really want to be great. We will continue next week.
