Natasha Osawaru, 2Baba’s Wife, Named Minority Leader of Edo Assembly
2Baba’s wife, Natasha Osawaru, has been appointed Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly, representing Egor Constituency.
Natasha Osawaru, the wife of Nigerian music icon Innocent “2Baba” Idibia, has risen to the position of Minority Leader of the Edo State House of Assembly.
Osawaru, who represents Egor Constituency, was unveiled as the new minority leader during Monday’s plenary as part of changes to the Assembly’s principal leadership.
The leadership shake-up followed the resignation of Blessing Agbebaku as Speaker amid alleged efforts by lawmakers to remove him from office. Yekini Idaiyi, representing Akoko Edo II Constituency, was later elected to replace him.
Before her latest appointment, Osawaru served as Deputy Majority Leader. She is a member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC).
Speaking after her emergence as minority leader, Osawaru said she viewed the new role as a position of responsibility and trust rather than simply a title.
“This new responsibility is not a title; it is a trust,” she said in a statement shared on her Facebook page.
She stressed the importance of accountability and constructive debate in a democracy, adding: “Our democracy thrives on rigorous debate, accountability, and the courage to advocate for the ordinary citizen without compromise.”
Osawaru also pledged continued dedication to the interests of her constituents, her party and Edo State.
“As Minority Leader, my commitment to the development of Edo State, the progress of our great party, the NDC, and the prosperity of the good people of Egor remains absolute,” she said.
According to the statement, her appointment reflects the confidence her colleagues and constituents have placed in her. It also highlighted her previous experience in the Assembly.
“Having previously served with distinction as the Deputy Majority Leader, she has consistently proven that effective leadership transcends partisan divides,” the statement said.
Osawaru became 2Baba’s wife in July 2025 after the singer’s separation from his former wife, Annie Macaulay Idibia. The couple have since welcomed their first child together and held a dedication ceremony for the child in February.
