Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso has clarified that he has not reached a final decision on whether to defect, stressing that consultations with political stakeholders are still in progress.

In a statement shared via his X account, the former Kano governor said reports suggesting he has finalised plans to switch political platforms are inaccurate.

He revealed that he is currently engaging with leaders of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), Peoples Redemption Party (PRP), and other groups as part of efforts to chart a viable political path.

“We have commenced wide-ranging consultations… to explore the best options for protecting our democratic interests,” he said.

Legal Issues Cloud ADC Future

Kwankwaso attributed the uncertainty to ongoing legal battles within the African Democratic Congress (ADC).

He explained that although the Supreme Court upheld the National Working Committee led by David Mark, the case has been remitted to the High Court, while a separate ruling has cast doubt on the party’s convention.

He also raised concerns over a possible move to deregister the ADC, describing the situation as worrisome.

Past Experience, Current Position

The former Minister of Defence recalled that he and his supporters exited the New Nigeria Peoples Party (NNPP) over similar legal challenges, warning that history may be repeating itself.

On the 2027 presidency, Kwankwaso maintained that he has not declared interest or endorsed any candidate, adding that the ADC has yet to decide on zoning.

“I have always placed national interest and party unity above personal ambition.”

He said his absence from recent party meetings was due to prior engagements and assured that any decision on his political direction would be communicated in due course.
