Rodrygo Out of World Cup After Suffering Severe Knee Injury at Real Madrid

Real Madrid confirm Rodrygo’s serious knee injury during La Liga loss to Getafe, ending his World Cup hopes with Brazil and impacting Los Blancos’ Champions League squad.

Brazilian winger Rodrygo Goes will miss the World Cup this summer after Real Madrid confirmed he sustained a serious knee injury during Monday’s 1-0 La Liga defeat to Getafe.

“Following the tests carried out today on our player Rodrygo by Real Madrid’s medical services, he has been diagnosed with a ruptured anterior cruciate ligament and a tear of the lateral meniscus in his right leg,” Los Blancos said in a statement.

The 25-year-old had recently returned from tendonitis but was forced off with a severe knee problem after entering as a substitute. Brazil’s squad, coached by former Real Madrid manager Carlo Ancelotti, will now be without the forward as they pursue a sixth World Cup in the United States.

Real Madrid are also impacted, with French forward Kylian Mbappe sidelined with a knee sprain. Only three forwards — Vinicius Junior, Gonzalo Garcia, and Franco Mastantuono — remain available ahead of their Champions League Round of 16 clash against Manchester City at the Santiago Bernabeu next week.
