It is often said that the youth are the bedrock of any society. When they are built up, society flourishes; when they are destroyed, society inevitably declines. This truth is particularly evident in the political landscape of Suleja today.

Regrettably, the sophistication that many of our youths display in their conversations, Facebook comments, and viral videos is often far removed from their actions. For a considerable number, the political ideals they profess are little more than delusion and fiction. They have become gullible instruments in the hands of others, lending themselves to the widespread misinformation that characterises much of social media discourse.

This is occurring at a time when a reformed system, pioneered by the current political leadership of our beloved town, has made the elevation of youths a central priority. Through initiatives focused on self-reliance, employments, and targeted empowerment schemes, young people are being equipped to become productive members of society. These are achievements worthy of celebration.

Yet, it is disheartening to observe that a subset of youths — many of whom proclaim themselves to be educated have allowed their minds to be controlled by persons of lesser learning. Outsmarted and, in some cases, brainwashed by semi-educated political merchants, they have become purveyors of sham tactics designed to mislead the public and manipulate the minds of their peers. This is being done by individuals who have already lost relevance in the political corridors, but who refuse to accept the new order.

Before now, the political system appeared to favour the semi-educated and the opportunists. Today, the pendulum has swung. The system now rewards education, competence, and vision. It favours those who have prepared themselves for leadership, not those who rely on noise, propaganda, and emotional blackmail.

Let it be clearly stated: politics is not a theatre for rascals. It is not a platform for the gullible to be used as pawns in the ambitions of others. Politics is for the good people men and women of vision who are committed to making society better.

The youth of progress understand this. They engage constructively, they interrogate policies, and they represent a departure from the old order of neglect.

The gullible youth, by contrast, have chosen a different path. Their perception of politics is tainted by bitterness and misinformation. They amplify fabricated stories, circulate unfounded claims, and attempt to create a false narrative that contradicts the tangible progress on the ground. In doing so, they do a disservice not only to themselves but to the entire society.

Suleja stands at a crossroads. One road leads to youth-led development, innovation, and responsible citizenship. The other leads to regression, manipulation, and the recycling of failed tactics. The choice, ultimately, rests with the youth themselves.

We must therefore call upon every young man and woman in Suleja to reject gullibility. Reject those who seek to use you. Embrace education, embrace skills, and embrace purposeful politics. The future of our society depends on it.
