Türkiye sends condolences to Nigeria over deadly NAF aircraft crash
Türkiye has expressed condolences to Nigeria over the deadly Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State that claimed lives on October 5.
Türkiye has expressed sympathy and condolences to Nigeria following the Nigerian Air Force aircraft crash in Ondo State that resulted in the loss of lives.
The Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs issued the condolence message on Tuesday through a statement published on its official X account.
The ministry said it was deeply saddened by the deaths resulting from the military aircraft accident in Ondo State on October 5.
“We extend our condolences to the families of those who lost their lives in this tragic accident and to the people of Nigeria,” it said.
The NAF aircraft, identified by tail number NGR 931, was reportedly on a flight from Benin City, Edo State, to Lagos when it lost contact with radar at approximately 9:13 a.m. on Monday.
The aircraft subsequently crashed close to the Igbokoda Naval Base in Igbokoda, within the Ilaje Local Government Area of Ondo State.
According to NAF spokesman Air Commodore Ehimen Ejodame, the aircraft was carrying 25 people — five crew members and 20 passengers.
Ejodame confirmed that no survivors had been located after the crash.
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu declared three days of national mourning for the deceased personnel and directed that the Nigerian flag be flown at half-mast nationwide.
Türkiye’s message of condolence joins other expressions of support for Nigeria as authorities continue investigations and efforts to establish what caused the fatal aircraft crash.
