2027 Presidency: APC Will Win All Five South-East States, Umahi Says
Dave Umahi says Tinubu will harvest more votes in the South-East in 2027 and expresses confidence that the APC will win all five states.
Minister of Works Dave Umahi has expressed confidence that President Bola Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress (APC) will significantly improve their electoral performance in the South-East during the 2027 presidential election.
According to Umahi, Tinubu is set to secure considerably more votes in the region than the APC recorded in the 2023 election.
Speaking on Channels Television’s Sunday Politics, the minister discussed the ruling party’s prospects in the South-East and its expectations for the next presidential election.
“I will not tell you whether we win the five votes of the South-East or not, but the President is going to harvest a lot of votes in the South-East. It can never be the same like it was before,” he said.
Asked whether he believed the APC could win any of the five South-East states, and specifically how many, Umahi expressed confidence that the party could take the entire region.
“My faith is telling me we’ll win the five states,” he said.
The minister also played down the possibility of Peter Obi, the presidential candidate of the Nigeria Democratic Congress (NDC), posing a serious challenge to Tinubu or the APC in 2027.
“By the way it is not only Peter Obi that is from the South-East that is contesting. We have about three or four other presidential candidates who are contesting.
“We have the Labour Party and I think there are other two, even a woman is involved. So, Peter Obi is not a threat as far as I am concerned,” Umahi said.
The minister’s remarks come amid intensified political activities ahead of the 2027 general election, with political parties and presidential contenders stepping up efforts to win support across the country. The South-East is expected to be one of the key battlegrounds in the presidential contest.
