The African Democratic Congress says leading presidential aspirants Peter Obi, Atiku Abubakar, and Chibuike Rotimi Amaechi are collaborating under its platform with the aim of stopping President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the All Progressives Congress in the 2027 Nigerian general election.

The party made the disclosure while unveiling 1ADC, a movement designed to bring together party members and supporters from diverse backgrounds as it prepares for the next presidential race.

The move represents an early effort by opposition figures to rally around a common political platform ahead of the 2027 election.

Speaking during the unveiling, 1ADC National Coordinator Lauretta Onochie said the initiative was aimed at fostering unity among the supporters of the three potential candidates.

“We are here to inform the world, the state, our political leaders that we have come together to be united as one ADC,” she said.

Onochie added that the movement demonstrates that political parties and leaders can unite despite ideological differences.

“Because Nigerians are asking an important question as to if political parties can ever come together and unite, today we are here to say it is possible and we are taking that lead.”

She acknowledged that political disagreements are inevitable but stressed that the party intends to maintain unity after its primary elections.

“We will unite after primaries, we will heal the wounds and we will not encourage anti-party activities. We will reach the grassroots, we will reach the poor, the young and we will be a party for every one. We will be strong, disciplined and united.”

According to Onochie, the movement was also created to minimise divisions among aspirants while mobilising Nigerians for the 2027 elections.

Citizens’ platform

Former ADC National Chairman Ralphs Nwosu said the party’s coalition approach would give Nigerians a stronger voice in politics.

“We say we don’t want to continue complaining. It is not about who is the (National) Chairman (or National) Secretary. The leadership of the ADC has been very deliberate. They don’t want to stand on anybody’s face. They want the Nigerian citizens to take over the party,” he said.

Nwosu called on Nigerians to participate actively in shaping the country’s political future before the 2027 elections.

He also described ADC National Chairman David Mark as “a military tactician” who would not be intimidated by political forces.

According to him, the party’s digital membership drive has already recorded millions of sign-ups nationwide, reflecting growing public interest.

Nwosu said the ADC is increasingly positioning itself as a citizens-driven party aimed at creating harmony within Nigeria’s political system.
