Confusion surrounding the All Progressives Congress (APC) House of Representatives primary for the Pankshin/Kanke/Kanam federal constituency took a new turn on Monday after the party’s electoral committee rejected previously announced results and declared Hon. Yusuf Gagdi winner.

Chairman of the Plateau State Primaries Electoral Committee, Stella Okotete, described the earlier declaration as unauthorized, insisting it did not originate from officials empowered to announce the outcome of the election.

Speaking in Jos, Okotete said only the returning officer officially appointed by the committee, Nandom Andrew Kura, had the constitutional authority to declare the primary results.

She urged party members and the public to disregard any earlier announcement made outside that mandate.

Kura later formally declared Gagdi winner of the APC primary election held on Saturday for the PKK House of Representatives seat.

Speaking after his confirmation, Gagdi defended the integrity of the exercise, saying the primary was successfully conducted in all 36 electoral wards across the constituency.

According to him, the process was backed by proper accreditation materials as well as documentary evidence including photographs and video recordings.

The lawmaker rejected claims suggesting the existence of multiple legitimate results, noting that only one valid declaration existed.

He further accused Daspan Ishaya, who reportedly announced an earlier result, of acting without authorization from the electoral committee.

“The constitution and guidelines of the party clearly vest the power to appoint election officials in the electoral committee. Any declaration outside that authority is null and void,” Gagdi stated.

He also raised concerns about inconsistencies surrounding the role allegedly played by the individual during the conduct of the election.

Shortly after the latest declaration, supporters of the lawmaker reportedly celebrated in parts of Kanam and Pankshin communities.
