The All Progressives Grand Alliance (APGA) has accused former Anambra State governor, Peter Obi, of attempting to weaken and ultimately destroy the party that played a major role in his political rise.

APGA, in a statement signed by its National Publicity Secretary, Mazi Ejimofor Opara, and titled “A Betrayal Alert for Ndi APGA,” urged party members not to support Obi, alleging that he had worked against APGA in successive elections.

The party challenged Obi’s alleged loyalty to APGA, questioning why he would support candidates contesting against the party if he remained committed to it.

“If Mr. Peter Obi so loved APGA, why has he fought so hard against APGA in every electoral cycle?” APGA asked.

It further alleged that “for every seat APGA is contesting,” Obi had candidates positioned to challenge the party.

The party summarised its position by declaring: “APGA made Peter Obi, yet Peter Obi wants to destroy APGA.”

APGA also warned its members against supporting Obi and the National Democratic Congress (NDC), describing the latter as a Special Purpose Vehicle.

“A vote for Peter Obi and the NDC is a vote to kill APGA,” the party stated.

According to APGA, Obi’s alleged efforts against the party dated back to 2014. It accused him of backing opposition forces against APGA during the 2017 and 2021 electoral cycles.

“Since 2014, Mr. Peter Obi has had one mission — to destroy the Party that made him,” the statement alleged.

The party further claimed that Obi supported opposition forces against APGA in 2025, while President Bola Ahmed Tinubu supported the party.

APGA also rejected claims of any formal or informal agreement with the NDC on power-sharing.

“There is no formal or informal consultation or agreement between APGA and NDC for power-sharing,” the party said, describing the NDC as “merely a Special Purpose Vehicle” and APGA as “a Political Party of Record.”

Defending its support for President Tinubu, APGA said its position was consistent with the party’s tradition of collaborating with the party at the centre.

However, it said the decision was also influenced by what it described as Tinubu’s commitment to developing infrastructure in the Southeast.

“APGA’s support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is not only predicated on the unwritten convention that the Party collaborates with the Party at the center,” the party said.

It added that the decision was “more fundamentally anchored on the fact that President Tinubu has demonstrated utmost good faith in the infrastructural development of the Southeast, more than any other government since Nigeria’s return to democracy in 1999.”

The party called on its members to resist what it described as attempts to deceive them, accusing Obi of abandoning APGA when the party needed him and treating political parties as “mere Special Purpose Vehicles to be used and dumped at will.”

Reaffirming its position in Anambra State, APGA said: “Anambra is APGA. It remains in our informed best interest to defend our fortress.”
