Man Utd bounce back with 1-0 victory at Burnley

Wolverhampton Wanderers will launch the 2026/27 Championship season with a home match against Blackburn Rovers after the fixture list was released on Thursday.

One of the headline games of the opening round will see relegated Premier League clubs Burnley and West Ham United meet at Turf Moor on Sunday, August 16. Wolves start their campaign two days earlier against Blackburn at Molineux on Friday, August 14.

Southampton begin the season under a four-point deduction stemming from the Spygate scandal and travel to Watford, while Cardiff City host Wrexham in a major Welsh derby on Monday, August 17.

Newly promoted sides also face testing starts, with League One winners Lincoln City travelling to Middlesbrough and Bolton Wanderers hosting Preston North End.

Burnley, West Ham and Wolves are expected to challenge for promotion after dropping out of the Premier League last season.

West Ham have retained manager Nuno Espirito Santo despite relegation after 14 years in the top flight. Nuno previously led Wolves to the Championship title during the 2017/18 campaign.

Wolves enter a new era under Cesar Peixoto and have added Kieran Trippier and Raul Jimenez to their squad. Burnley, meanwhile, continue their search for a permanent manager after Scott Parker’s exit.

Further down the fixture calendar, West Ham visit Millwall on September 19 in the clubs’ first meeting since 2012, while Wolves host West Bromwich Albion in the Black Country derby on the same day.

Southampton and Portsmouth renew their South Coast rivalry on October 10, while Burnley and Blackburn meet in the season’s first East Lancashire derby on November 21.

The regular Championship season will end on May 1, 2027, with Burnley away to Birmingham City, West Ham at home to Portsmouth and Wolves travelling to Derby County.
