Eko Bridge Outbound Lane Shut Down Indefinitely as Lagos Begins Safety Repairs
Lagos motorists have been advised to use Third Mainland Bridge as Eko Bridge outbound section closes from May 12, 2026.
The Lagos State Government has ordered the indefinite closure of the outbound section of Eko Bridge towards Lagos Island to allow for urgent safety investigations and repair work.
The emergency closure will take effect from Tuesday, May 12, 2026.
Lagos State Commissioner for Transportation, Oluwaseun Osiyemi, disclosed the development on Sunday.
Motorists travelling through Apongbon and Ijora Olopa have been advised to divert through the Third Mainland Bridge to reach their destinations.
Despite the closure, the government stated that the inward Lagos Island section of the bridge would remain open to traffic.
“Adequate traffic and security personnel will be deployed along alternative routes to guide motorists and ensure smooth traffic flow,” Osiyemi said.
