Neymar Says ‘It’s Over’ as Brazil Crash Out Against Norway

An emotional Neymar hinted at retirement from international football after Brazil’s World Cup exit following a 2-1 defeat to Norway.

Brazilian football star Neymar appeared to announce the end of his international career after Brazil suffered a 2-1 defeat to Norway in the round of 16 on Sunday.

Norway’s Erling Haaland scored twice to send the five-time world champions out of the competition, while Neymar’s late penalty at MetLife Stadium proved only a consolation.

The 34-year-old forward, who entered the game as a substitute, became emotional after the final whistle and hinted that he had played his final game for Brazil.

“I tried and I tried. Now it’s over. It began here and it ends here,” Neymar told Globo Esporte after the match.

The Brazilian captain was seen crying on the field before being comforted by teammates.

MetLife Stadium also holds special significance for Neymar, as he scored his first international goal there in Brazil’s 2-0 victory over the United States in 2010.

After years of battling injuries, Neymar’s inclusion in coach Carlo Ancelotti’s World Cup squad had surprised many observers.

The former FC Barcelona and Paris Saint-Germain F.C. attacker, who now plays again for Santos FC, missed Brazil’s first two group games because of injury.

He made his return during a 3-0 win against Scotland in Miami, his first appearance for Brazil since October 2023.

The defeat to Norway may now mark the final chapter of Neymar’s international career with Brazil.
