Governor Ademola Adeleke’s victory in Saturday’s Osun State governorship election has attracted congratulatory messages from several prominent political figures, including former Bayelsa State Governor Henry Seriake Dickson, Aviation Minister Festus Keyamo, former Senator Ben Murray-Bruce, Dino Melaye and Gbadebo Rhodes-Vivour.

In separate posts on X on Sunday, the politicians described the result as an important development for democracy and the people of Osun, with some urging political leaders to reflect on the lessons from the election.

Dickson said Adeleke’s re-election was a reminder that voters could still determine their political future through the ballot despite the difficulties within the country’s political environment.

“I warmly congratulate the Governor of Osun State, His Excellency Senator Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State Governorship Election.

“This victory is significant not only for Governor Adeleke and the people of Osun State, but also for our democracy. It is a reminder that, even in an increasingly challenging political environment, the people can still assert their democratic will through the ballot,” Dickson said.

He praised Osun voters for defending their democratic choice and urged Adeleke’s opponents to work with the governor in the interest of the state.

“I commend the people of Osun State for standing firm in defence of their democratic choice, and call on all those who contested the election and emerged on the losing side to join hands with the Governor in the spirit of sportsmanship and work for the peace and development of Osun State,” he said.

Dickson also wished Adeleke and the people of Osun peace, progress and prosperity.

Keyamo, in his message, described Adeleke’s victory as historic.

“Huge congratulations to Governor Ademola Adeleke on his historic victory in the governorship election in Osun State,” the minister said.

Murray-Bruce also celebrated Adeleke’s victory, recalling their time together in the eighth Senate.

“Warm congratulations to my dear friend and former colleague in the 8th Senate, Governor Ademola Adeleke, on his victory in the Osun State governorship election.

“Congratulations, my brother,” he said.

For Rhodes-Vivour, the outcome represented a victory for Osun voters against what he described as tyranny.

“I congratulate the great people of Osun on their spectacular triumph against tyranny,” he said.

He maintained that the election had shown the strength of determined voters despite alleged intimidation and inducement.

“You have proven that no amount of guns, intimidation and inducement can deter a people determined not to return under the yoke of their oppressors,” Rhodes-Vivour said.

He further called on Nigerians to apply the lessons from Osun to the 2027 general elections.

“Let us take the lessons from Osun and build on it towards the general elections,” he added.

Melaye, meanwhile, framed Adeleke’s victory as an opposition triumph.

“Opposition win in Osun. Congratulations Ademola Adeleke. We are dancing to the Villa. APC… odabo,” he posted.

Adeleke secured 511,067 votes to emerge victorious, while his closest rival, APC candidate Bola Oyebamiji, polled 444,815 votes.
