The Saudi Arabian Football Federation (SAFF) has confirmed the appointment of Georgios Donis as the national team’s new head coach ahead of the 2026 World Cup.

Donis replaces Herve Renard, who was sacked in April, just weeks before Saudi Arabia begin their tournament campaign against Uruguay on June 15.

SAFF announced on Thursday via social media that Donis has signed a contract that will keep him in charge until July 2027.

The 56-year-old Greek coach has previously managed AEK Athens and Panathinaikos in Greece and has also worked in Saudi football.

He most recently coached Saudi Pro League club Al Khaleej, which he joined in 2024.

Donis takes over from Renard, who guided Saudi Arabia to their seventh World Cup qualification and ensured their third consecutive appearance at the tournament.

Saudi Arabia will face Spain, Uruguay, and Cape Verde in Group H at the World Cup, scheduled from June 11 to July 19.
