Senior Advocate Rank Withdrawn Temporarily as LPPC Suspends Mike Ozekhome
Prominent lawyer Mike Ozekhome has been suspended from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria by the LPPC, which cited ongoing disciplinary proceedings.
The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC) has suspended prominent lawyer and legal scholar Professor Mike Ozekhome from the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), pending the outcome of disciplinary proceedings against him.
The decision was reached at the committee’s 173rd General Meeting and was announced in a statement signed by LPPC Secretary, Mr. Kabiru Eniola Akanbi.
Akanbi stated that the suspension was effected in line with Paragraph 26(6) of the Guidelines for the Conferment of the SAN Rank and other regulations governing the prestigious legal title.
He noted that the measure would remain in place until the Disciplinary and Ethics Sub-Committee of the LPPC concludes its review of the matter.
The committee said the move was necessary to preserve the dignity, credibility and public confidence attached to the rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.
In the statement, the LPPC said:
“The Legal Practitioners’ Privileges Committee (LPPC), at its 173rd General Meeting held on 23rd June 2026, approved the suspension of Chief Mike Ozekhome from the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria.”
It further directed that:
“Chief Mike Ozekhome shall refrain from parading himself, presenting himself, or otherwise holding himself out as a Senior Advocate of Nigeria pending the final determination of the disciplinary proceedings.”
The LPPC emphasized that it remains dedicated to enforcing ethical standards and professional discipline within Nigeria’s legal profession.
“The LPPC remains committed to upholding the highest standards of professional ethics, integrity, and discipline within the legal profession and to ensuring that the Rank of Senior Advocate of Nigeria continues to command public confidence and respect.”
