Tension has gripped the Enugu State chapter of the African Democratic Congress (ADC) following allegations of leadership imposition after the party’s recent state congress.

Stakeholders are divided over the outcome, with rival factions laying claim to the chairmanship and calling on the party’s national leadership to carefully review the process before making any recognition.

Comrade Chika Idoko, an ADC leader in Enugu State and the party’s 2023 senatorial candidate for Enugu North Zone, accused a former governor of influencing the emergence of a preferred candidate.

“This is a desperate attempt to compromise the credibility of the party and frustrate the will of genuine stakeholders,” Idoko said on Friday.

He raised concerns about internal democracy in the state chapter, questioning how leadership decisions are being made.

“How can a party seeking public trust and credibility be led in a way that raises questions among its own members?” he asked.

Idoko also alleged irregularities in the congress process, warning against what he described as external interference and imposition.

According to him, Major General Chris Eze (retd) is the duly elected chairman of the ADC in Enugu State, having emerged through a properly conducted congress.

“Chris Eze earned his mandate through performance, trust, tested leadership and strong grassroots support, not through imposition,” he stated.

He urged the National Organising Secretary and the National Working Committee to avoid recognising any leadership he described as imposed.

“The Enugu ADC has already spoken through a legitimate internal process,” Idoko added, insisting that the congress outcome represents the will of party members.

He called for adherence to transparency and internal democracy as key principles for the party’s credibility.
