Air Peace Cites African Airspace Issue Over Disrupted Lagos-Gatwick Flight
Nigeria’s Air Peace said enroute airspace access issues forced its Lagos–London Gatwick aircraft to return safely to Lagos.
Nigeria’s leading carrier, Air Peace, says access challenges involving the airspace authorities of an African country caused the disruption of its Lagos–London Gatwick flight earlier this week.
The airline disclosed that the May 13, 2026 service encountered operational difficulties mid-route, forcing the aircraft to return safely to Lagos.
In a statement released by the airline’s management, Air Peace said the decision was taken in compliance with established international aviation protocols.
“Air Peace wishes to inform the flying public that its scheduled Lagos–London Gatwick service of May 13, 2026, experienced an operational disruption following enroute access issues involving the airspace authorities of an African country,” the statement read.
The airline explained that immediate operational clarification with the relevant authorities became necessary, leading to the aircraft’s return to base.
“As a result of the development and the need for immediate operational clarification with the relevant authorities, the aircraft safely returned to Lagos in accordance with established international aviation procedures,” Air Peace stated.
The disruption led to the rescheduling of the London Gatwick service while discussions continued to resolve the matter.
According to the airline, passengers affected by the delay received updates, support services and other forms of assistance during the process.
Air Peace apologised for the inconvenience, describing the disruption as an unforeseen situation outside its control.
“Air Peace sincerely apologises to all affected passengers for the inconvenience caused by the unforeseen disruption which was beyond our control,” the airline added.
The airline further stressed its commitment to maintaining operational integrity, regulatory compliance and quality passenger service across all routes.
