The Hausa proverb aptly captures the situation: ‘If hardship is destined, clever interventions will only lead to futility.’ This truth is illustrated by the current struggles of the Ajingi, Gaya, and Albasu Federal Constituency, which has been misrepresented in the House of Representatives.

During the 2023 General Election, hidden aspirants emerged, and the constituency was presented with a clear choice: re-elect a member with a proven track record or opt for a newcomer with empty promises. Regrettably, the people prioritized change over quality representation.

Prior to 2015, the area suffered from neglect and poor representation. However, Hon. Abdullahi Mahmud Gaya’s commitment brought noticeable development. During 2023 election the task before the electorates was to consolidate emerged progress, but the electorate opted for new member instead. Now, they are reaping the consequences.

Throughout his tenure, Hon. Gaya remained accessible and responsive, holding regular interactions with stakeholders and prioritizing the electorate’s needs. His inclusive decision-making process and commitment to consultative representation set him apart.

To the electorate, history will not be kind as they failed to elect the right candidate. They were swayed by petty inducements, and now they are counting the losses of voting for an inaccessible and unresponsive member. Hon. Gaya’s commitment to his constituents is unwavering, and his exceptional performance makes him the standout choice.

Despite the difficulties faced by the people, the current member’s insensitive approach has embarrassed the constituents with a maize grain empowerment program that resembles aid distribution in a war-torn area like Gaza Strip.

The program’s insensitivity is compounded by the requirement for beneficiaries to take a photograph before receiving the grain, a humiliating experience. When a society is denied God’s mercy, it often ends up facing unbearable hardship and regret. This situation serves as a stark reminder for them.

As the 2027 election approaches, this situation serves as a reminder for the constituents to prioritize representative who demonstrate respect, empathy, and compassion. It’s time for them to unchain themselves from ineffective representation and choose representative who truly care.
