In Mercy Aigbe’s movies titled ’Ada Omo Daddy’, the themes of fatherhood, motherhood, and stepfatherhood are woven into a dramatic storyline, exploring the complexities of family dynamics, parental roles, and the impact on a child’s life where the strength, weakness and journey of a daughter were exposed to parental influence, blended families, love and sacrifice, growth and forgiveness. Ada Omo Daddy is a compelling drama that delves into the triumphs of modern family life. In both real life and the movie, the mothers face societal expectations and the pressures of navigating family dynamics while being the central figure in their child’s life. In real life, Priscilla Ojo has been raised primarily by Iyabo Ojo, who has occasionally spoken about filling both parental roles.

Etan Thomas, a former American professional basketball player, in his book, Fatherhood: Rising to the Ultimate Challenge, said, “Being a father isn’t just about having children; it’s about raising them.” The book encompasses the compilation of stories from fathers, especially public figures, about the joys and trials of fatherhood. It explains the personal account of fatherhood, exploring both the joy and responsibility it entails, where it shows the imperfection of the fatherhood in the life of a child rather than its presence. Also, Ashlee Gadd in The Magic of Motherhood envisioned the role of a mother mostly about the joys and struggles of motherhood in celebrating its beauty, where she said that “Motherhood is the hardest and holiest of work.”

JP2025 was the hashtag name for the wedding that took place at a picturesque seaside venue in Lagos between Priscilla Ojo and Juma Mkambala (Juma Jux). It was a fusion of Nigerian and Tanzanian culture with a vibrant traditional ceremony on April 17th exclusively with cultural performances (traditional Yoruba music and dance) and attires in a corset-fitted aso-oke gown and agbada with dominated aso-ebi fabrics by the guests. The white wedding with the bride’s attire, a custom white gown with sophisticated beadwork, while the groom’s attire is a classic tuxedo. The decor of the event was elegant floral arrangements with ambient lighting, lit up with live performances and celebrity appearances.

The memorable part of the event was when Iyabo Ojo and her ex-husband, Ademidun Ojo, reunited to hand over their daughter in marriage, setting aside past differences for the occasion. JP2025 was a monumental social event with much outcry and rated as one of the most lavish and culturally inclined bridal rites. It was a star-studded appearance from top celebrities, political figures, influencers and captains of industry from Nigeria and Tanzania who graced the event. With the influence of the bride’s mother, musicians, Nollywood actors and other prominent figures contributed their star power to the event. The wedding stunningly intermingled with both Yoruba traditions and Tanzanian cultural elements, symbolising diversity and unity. The cross-cultural representation stood out as a refreshing and inspirational narrative in the context of modern weddings, which will be the talk of the town for a long period of time.

The wedding opulence from bespoke designer outfits to a luxurious venue. Guests were treated to elaborate decor, gourmet cuisine, and unforgettable entertainment. The grandeur set a new benchmark for luxury weddings in Nigeria, drawing parallels with global elite ceremonies. The wedding dominated media headlines and trended across platforms like Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube, with live streams and posts reaching millions globally. The extensive media coverage boosted its appeal and status, making it a topic of widespread discussion. Iyabo Ojo’s public persona as a devoted mother added emotional weight to the ceremony. The bond between mother and daughter resonated with fans and attendees. This narrative of family and love deepened the public’s connection to the event. This global dimension highlighted the increasing interconnectedness of African cultures. The wedding boosted local economies, especially Lagos’ hospitality and event planning sectors, through its scale and demands. The wedding inspired many, symbolising success, love, and celebration of African heritage. Priscilla Ojo’s wedding will likely remain a reference point in Nigeria’s wedding culture for years. It showcased not only personal milestones but also broader themes of cultural pride, economic growth, and social influence.

One lesson that must be imbibed from the wedding is the intimate family of Ojo (Ademidun, Iyabo, Priscilla) and Paul Okoye. Iyabo Ojo is a renowned Nigerian actress that is bound to follow the trend of her contemporaries that view the absence of a father in a marriage as joy due to personal convictions, which it is sometimes rationalised into realities. But she set the record straight by not only inviting her ex-husband but also making sure he performs his duties for his daughter. As a biological father, he is portrayed to be the primary provider and protector, playing a central role in the child’s upbringing. His character must exemplify love, guidance, and sacrifice, emphasising the importance of a father’s presence in a child’s formative years. Most fathers have lost their sense of identity and security, moral compass, teaching values and the emotional bond through active involvement in the child’s life. As far as the mother is depicted, she is to be the nurturer, mediator, and emotional anchor. Also, it balances affection with discipline, ensuring a stable home environment and offering emotional support, helping the child navigate challenges. And serves as a bridge between the father and child, fostering family unity and instilling resilience by being a source of strength during family struggles. Likewise, the stepfather’s role represents an outsider trying to build trust and integrate into an existing family dynamic. Besides, he oscillates between a supporter and an authority figure, depending on the relationship with the mother and child.

The absence of a constant father figure parallels the void Ada experiences in parts of the film, highlighting the importance of communication and mutual respect between parent and child. Iyabo Ojo’s current relationship with her partner, Paulo Okoye, mirrors this dynamic. While Priscilla has grown up as a fiercely independent individual, her mother’s openness to love and partnership sets an example of finding happiness while navigating family complexities.

In all, Iyabo Ojo held on to her breakthrough in the Yoruba movies in 2002 with the movie titled ‘Baba Darijinwon’, directed by veteran actor and filmmaker Oga Bello (Adebayo Salami). She forgives all the odds in the marriage that produces Priscilla and does the appropriate justifications through her resilience, versatility, work ethic, business acumen, social media savvy, empathy and advocacy against her outspokenness, highly emotional and industry politics. May the likes of Iyabo Ojo be blessed.
