Kwara building collapse: Eight feared trapped, including nursing mothers and children

Eight people are feared trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, Kwara State, with rescue teams and residents searching the rubble.

ILORIN — Rescue workers and residents are battling to save at least eight people feared trapped after a two-storey building collapsed in Ilorin, the Kwara State capital, early Tuesday.

The building reportedly collapsed around 5:30 a.m. at PopoGiwa, Madalasi Zhogoro area, off Sjikobi Road, within Ilorin West Local Government Area.

Witnesses at the scene said nursing mothers and children were among those believed to be trapped beneath the rubble.

The collapse triggered an immediate rescue response, with personnel from the Kwara State Fire Service and the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), alongside local residents, working to locate and rescue those trapped.

Officials of the State Emergency Management Agency were also at the scene as rescue operations continued.

Attempts to reach officials of the relevant agencies and the state police command for details on the incident were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
